I recently received a message on Instagram commenting about the leafy spurge in our pasture.
It honestly gave me a good laugh.
While I was taking the video I could hear my 5 year old saying “Mom, we need some sheep.”
There was also a time, I would have tried to get a different angle, but not anymore.
When I first started sharing our life on the internet I was scared of the details people would notice and what they would say. There were times I adjust my camera angle to not show how deep some of the mud had gotten, weeds, a mess, or something I thought we should have nicer.
Then I learned more about the true meaning of hospitality.
It’s not about what I have to show off to others.
It’s about inviting others in. Meeting people where I’m at and where they’re at.
We had family gatherings at our house while it was still under construction because it was more important to gather.
Our banker brought loan papers out to sign and Kyle invited him in. My first priority in the morning is hustling to the farm, which means our kitchen isn’t left presentable before we leave. The day our banker came our kitchen stools had crumbs all over them. I was mortified at how dirty it was going to make his pants, but it was important to invite him in anyway.
I hope you feel invited in our lives like friends. The friends who would welcome you into our home regardless of what mess we have inside. The friends who welcome you on the farm even when the mud is deep and out to pasture even when we’ve got more spurge we’re working on.
Our life is a continual, messy, work in progress and I hope you feel the door is open on the way now, not closed until we’re done.
PS — Yes, Kade would really like to get some sheep to clean up our pastures 😂
