Our latest money lesson with our kids was unintentional.
There was an overabundance of undirected energy, so I offered a quarter for every tail held.
I was not expecting what happened next.
First, I was expecting one of them to be so excited and motivated by the money.
This was the first time I’ve offered money for doing a job.
Only one of them took me up on the offer and held the rest of the tails for the day.
When we were all done and the money came out, the one who didn’t do the job asked for her money too.
She said, “I didn’t want to hold the tails, but I still want the money.”
🤯
I then realized the only time we give them money is to put in the plate at church. Everyone gets an equal amount.
The only tangible money experience I’ve ever given them wasn’t based on merit.
We ended up having a great opportunity to talk about how it takes work to make money. How money isn’t just given. And how we have to choose to take opportunities to make money.
Now we’re working through which jobs to pay wages on and which we don’t.
How do you do it? Any great lessons you’ve learned?
