3 Things I don’t Let My Farm Kids Do | Machine Edition
Over time of having the kids at the farm, all day, every day we’ve come to adopt these expectations as part of our culture to keep everyone safe. PS—It makes me extremely squeamish to talk about safety. It brings feels of superstition.
Ok, back on track —
From the very first kid, we started with buttons, levers, steering wheels, all the things are for the driver. Even if the machine is off and no one is around, those expectations still apply. A machine is never a toy.
Second, always keep your body away from the door and window — no leaning, no pushing, no resting on anything that could open or break open. Now as they’re older, we’re also practicing doing an inventory of how all doors and windows are latched.
Third, we stay out of tires and rims. They are not for us to climb or sit in. We also do not go directly in front of or behind tires. We’re going over which direction tires can turn and where we can be in relation to them.
What would you add for machine safety?
