“Learning never ends, we only hope the tuition doesn’t get too high.” — Grandpa
While the agriculture lifestyle is something we all sign up for, it’s the business of ranching that will keep us going. Continuing to learn how to evolve and improve our operations is one of the unwritten expectations of being at the helm of a business; hopefully, without learning the most expensive way – through trial gone wrong.
Which is where this came from –
I was a typical kid looking to what’s next in life, which meant we talked about what days after school would look like. My grandpa would tell my dad and then my dad told us, “Learning never ends, we only hope the tuition doesn’t get too high.”
As a student, then a young adult I could see what my grandpa meant, but it took years of experience to really understand the words.
After I graduated college, I took a job with a company and had access to countless resources. There were trainings, handbooks, other employees, company guidelines, courses, and experts all available to me. When I had a question, I also had support and I had a process to get an answer.
Then I went out on my own –
After making the transition to farming and ranching full time I could see the differences in business structure. Surrounding myself and our business with experts willing to make our business better was up to me. I needed to find and build a team.
Which brought up the next hurdle — building a team and arsenal of resources in a rural area with awkward blocks of time and limited funds would require creative thinking.
Where to even start — What options do I have as a producer to better my operation? How can I continue to learn and improve my ranching business? What resources are even out there and are they from reputable sources? Are there ranching resources online?
The solution –
I found RancherMinds to be what I was looking for.
My friend, Shaye, I actually know her in real life, has created a community of ranchers and resources that are actually moving the needle.
The world of online courses, webinars, and digital downloads has exploded in recent years, across virtually all industries. What makes agriculture different, as we all know, is how we essentially all produce similar goods, but we do it in vastly different ways with varying limiting factors. Which then makes applying something we’ve learned from a speaker or heard on a webinar more complicated.
Enter the brilliance of the community Shaye has put together!
You’re going to love it! –
It’s a monthly discussion with industry leaders and other producers. A place where questions are welcome and the real value comes from working through the ideas, together, in real time.
Doing a call monthly keeps the ideas fresh and working. A monthly call keeps the information in a form that is easier to implement and less likely to be an overload that leads to overwhelm.
For me personally, my brain loves to workshop ideas with others. People who really understand what I’m working through and can provide candid, tested feedback.
It’s my favorite part of RancherMinds — A monthly Zoom call where producers not only hear from an expert on a pertinent topic, but also can discuss.
Shaye knows your plate is full. She knows you spend more time working in the business rather than on it, like you’d like. She also knows that you want to keep learning and evolving your operation. Shaye knows, because she is a 5th generation rancher that grew up with her parents building something out of not much of anything.
RancherMinds is everything you didn’t know you were looking for. To get a taste of what you can expect check out the free resources on the podcast, newsletter, Instagram and Facebook. Once you see the value there, you’ll be signing up for her monthly calls in no time. When you find out how much it costs, you’ll be sending the link to all your friends!
Bonus, which might be the best part –
Did I mention you’ll make new friends?
One of my favorite parts of the internet is how small it has made the world. With an uncertain schedule and little kids, it’s been hard to connect with others in person; people that truly understand this life. Being able to have a community online of people that are on the same page, working toward the same goal, and truly get where I’m at has been such a blessing. This life can be lonely and I’m thankful for communities like RancherMinds that give us an option to connect, frequently.
